Scott Richardson's clients include hospitals, physicians, surgery centers, nursing homes and assisted living providers, specialty hospitals, dialysis providers, and other health care companies. He counsels clients on a variety of topics including regulatory compliance, licensing and certification, and transaction matters. He also has substantial experience in EMTALA, the certificate of need process and Medicare and Medicaid enrollment and payment issues.
Using his prior experience as a healthcare executive, Scott works closely with clients' in-house counsel on a number of operational issues, including physician recruitment, the initiation of new service lines, under arrangement agreements, and general compliance issues. Scott negotiates agreements between hospitals and companies providing anesthesia, emergency room, laboratory, pathology, air ambulance, telemedicine and hospitalist services. He counsels long term care providers on a wide range of issues including payment and reimbursement, resident disputes, collection issues and certification issues. He also advises clients on a variety of billing and collection matters, Stark and Anti-kickback statute compliance, and other fraud and abuse issues.
He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the American, Tennessee and Nashville Bar Associations' Health Law Sections, the Tennessee Academy of Hospital Attorneys and the American Society for Pharmacy Law. Scott also is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association's Public Education Committee and was recently elected to the Association's Health Law Section Executive Council.
Scott is also active in the community. He is involved in the American Diabetes Association's Middle Tennessee Chapter, serving on the Leadership Council and as Chair for the Chapter's Advocacy Committee. Scott is active in many legislative initiatives and public education for the American Diabetes Association, while also assisting individuals with diabetes facing discrimination in a variety of settings.
