Martha Boyd specializes in labor and employment law and employee benefits litigation. She has represented employers in all types of litigation in state and federal courts, including successfully defending employment discrimination claims under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Medical Leave Act and other state and federal statutes, and enforcing noncompetition agreements. Martha counsels employers in the handling of day-to-day human resources issues to assist them in assessing and reducing risk associated with personnel decisions and policy implementation. Martha's employee benefits litigation experience includes representing life, health and disability insurers in disputes involving claims for benefits and breach of fiduciary duty.
Martha recently was named a "Future Star" for her litigation practice relating to labor and employment law in the 2009 edition of Benchmark Litigation. Prior to joining Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, Martha practiced in the Cincinnati and Nashville offices of Frost Brown Todd, LLC, where she focused on labor and employment law.
Martha also is actively involved in various legal and community organizations. A 2006 graduate of the Tennessee Bar Association's Leadership Law program, Martha has served for the past two years on the Steering Committee. In 2007, Martha was elected to a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the Nashville Bar Association. She is active in the NBA’s Labor and Employment Committee. Martha has been active in the Lawyers Association for Women, serving as newsletter editor and secretary, and currently serving as a First Year Director, and is a member of the Harry Phillips American Inn of Court. She also formerly served as the District 25 Committeewoman on the Davidson County Democratic Executive Committee.
In addition to her law firm experience, Martha is a former Major in the United States Army Reserve and served as a Civil Affairs officer with the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, Iraq.
