John leads the firm's international practice initiatives and its China practice team. John works with a variety of companies in connection with their business activities in China , Europe, the Americas and Africa.  More specifically, John advises companies that are contemplating pursuing a China strategy, as well as those companies that are currently doing business in China or with China-based businesses.  John also assists US manufacturing companies with their activities overseas and foreign companies desiring to expand operations to the United States.  John works with US-based health care companies to explore business opportunities in a number of different foreign countries, including the United Kingdom, China, and Mexico.  John has worked with several companies in connection with the expansion of their global workforce. 

John chairs the firm's TAGLaw committee, which oversees the firm's participation in TAGLaw, an international network of law firms in over 90 countries.  In addition, John is counsel to the Tennessee Chinese Chamber of Commerce. Through his involvement with TAGLaw, John routinely assists clients locate resources, including legal, financial or accounting assistance, to complete transactions or to resolve disputes throughout the world.

Domestically, John represents health care providers, health care systems, managed care organizations, insurers, physicians and physician groups and other medical service providers in a variety of areas. More specifically, John has experience assisting health care clients with operational issues, employment and benefit matters, managed care contracting and dispute resolution, billing and payment disputes, collection litigation and physician practice disputes.

In the area of employee benefits litigation, John handles all types of disputes, including class action and individual claims relating to denials of claims for benefits, severance plans, fiduciary duty and prohibited transaction provisions, ERISA Section 510 claims, plan investment losses, subrogation/reimbursement claims and claims brought against managed care organizations.   John's typical clients include plan sponsors, welfare and pension plans, fiduciaries, insurance companies, claim administrators and managed care organizations.  John also advises ERISA fiduciaries on matters involving the daily administration of employee benefit programs and risk management.

John has been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the United States District Courts in all districts located in Tennessee, as well as the Eastern District of Arkansas, Southern District of Texas and the Eastern District of Texas.  John is a member of the Nashville  and Tennessee Bar Associations.  In addition, John is a member of the American Bar Association, including the International Law Section, the China Committee, Health Law Section, Labor and Employment Section, the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section and Litigation Section.   John also is a member of the Middle Tennessee Employee Benefits Council, Leadership Health Care, American Health Lawyers Association and is active in the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce's International Business Council. 

John is the past President and serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Resource Center and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the American Heart Association.
