Chris Thorsen practices in the areas of commercial litigation, securities litigation, intellectual property litigation, and related counseling.   Chris has litigated many types of commercial disputes in state and federal courts across the country, including securities litigation, class action disputes, antitrust actions, commercial real estate litigation, sub-prime lending and financial fraud disputes, mass torts and competition tort, insurance brokerage disputes, and trademark and copyright litigation.  Chris has represented clients in complex litigation in many jurisdictions, including Tennessee, Alabama, California, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi and Texas.

Securities Litigation:  Chris is actively involved in representing clients in many types of securities disputes.  Chris recently defended an investment company in a series of related litigation involving claims of securities fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and mismanagement arising out of multi-million dollar investments in two separate exchange funds.  These cases were brought in Delaware, Maryland and Texas by more than eighty plaintiffs and involved claims seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in compensatory and punitive damages.  After extensive discovery (including more than 80 depositions in multiple jurisdictions) and motion practice, the cases resolved favorably.  Chris also has represented clients in securities litigation brought by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission as well as the state securities law enforcement agencies of Tennessee and Alabama.  In addition, Chris has represented individuals and businesses in member and shareholder disputes in Tennessee, Alabama, California and Texas.

Commercial Litigation :  Chris also represents clients in many types of commercial litigation, including real estate, antitrust, competitive torts, construction and commercial contract disputes.  Chris has litigated multi-million dollar disputes involving commercial real estate developments, condominium developments and golf course developments.  He recently first-chaired an embezzlement trial and obtained a judgment on behalf of the employer for more than $2.3 million. He successfully defended the owner of a golf course and surrounding development property in the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Tennessee in a dispute with putative purchasers of the property.  After a three day evidentiary hearing, the district court ordered the plaintiff to release the lien on the property and the suit then settled favorably.

Intellectual Property Litigation :  Chris has represented businesses and individuals in many types of intellectual property disputes, including trademark, trade secrets, copyrights, and unfair competition litigation.  He has represented a performing artist's estate in several royalty and copyright infringement disputes that were international in scope.  Chris represents computer software developers in copyright, trade secrets and unfair competition litigation throughout Tennessee.

During Chris' tenure at the firm, he has served as interim in-house counsel for one of the largest insurance brokerage firms in the world, where he managed litigation throughout North America.

Chris is a member of the Nashville, Tennessee and American Bar Associations and is serving on the Tennessee Bar Association's Litigation Section's Executive Council.
