How many Summer Associates does Boult Cummings accept?
We go through a very extensive interview process during the fall, conducting on-campus and in-office interviews. Each summer, the Summer Associate class size varies depending on anticipated need and current capacity. In previous years, the class size has ranged from 7 - 12 students.
Do you accept 1L or 2L students?
We only accept 2L students.
What type of work will I be doing as a Summer Associate?
Boult Cummings has developed an intranet site that allows the students to choose projects that interest them. Using this site, our attorneys can post assignments and each Summer Associate has the opportunity to pick projects from the list that pertain to areas of the law that appeal to them. In addition, Summer Associates are encouraged to accompany attorneys to matters such as mediations, depositions, trials, client meetings and conference calls, deal closings, and community and professional functions.
What type of social activities will be offered this summer?
Nashville's beautiful landscape, close proximity to other major regions in our country and wealth of friendly people make it a great place to live and work. One of the goals of the Summer Associate Program is to showcase our wonderful city and the many amenities it has to offer. To help accomplish this task, our summer committee has a variety of activities planned that will highlight the great city of Nashville and allow our attorneys and the summer associates to get to know one another. Past activities have included special dinners with our members and associates, a trip to Center Hill Lake, and music and arts events. Spouses and families are always welcome at after-hours activities.
What type of training and professional development does the firm offer Summer Associates?
Upon arriving at the firm, Summer Associates participate in an extensive orientation to familiarize them with the firm's operational procedures. Through the mentor program, each Summer Associate will have the opportunity to be paired with a Member and an Associate attorney to learn more about the firm and the legal profession. In addition, each Summer Associate is assigned a writing coach that will review all written projects and help to further develop the student's writing skills. These mentors will offer invaluable guidance and leadership throughout the six-week program.
What is the atmosphere of the firm on a day-to-day basis?
Boult Cummings has adopted a 'business casual' dress code year-round. Attorneys may need to alter their dress when meeting with clients or going to court. We also promote an 'open door' policy on all levels, from Administration to the Board of Governors.
What are the compensation and benefits for Summer Associates?
The compensation, bonus opportunities and benefits package for Boult Cummings Associate attorneys is very competitive with other Nashville-based firms and comparable with law firms throughout the region. We compensate for all firm-recognized holidays during the six-week program. Each Summer Associate will have his/her own office equipped with a computer, personal email and voicemail technology.
